There's two parts to this: DNS registration and the website / forum hosting.

the two may or may not be connected together. we need to make sure both are funded indefinitely. ;)

I believe Hostpapa handled both aspects of this.

Remind me again next year as we approaching either expiry date.

Hello Fellow PMD users!

Sort of bumping, but not entirely, to the original aspect of this post. I had the same issue as the other user. And followed his steps.

The software for me wasn't detecting the PMD in DFU mode because the drivers wouldn't install via windows driver installer NOR the PMD reboot software. So I had to manually install the driver, THEN it worked. Once the CH2 button slowly flashes, be VERY patient with it. My PMD was frozen after beginning installation of 180096069 because for some reason it was simultaneously syncing music and crashed.

Now I am running 180096069 and I couldn't be happier!

Thank you very much Sox and the rest of the team!

Thanks for coming back, digging out the post, and posting your progress. Could very well help somebody else in future.

I'm not sure what driver you had to install though as I've never needed to install one. Perhaps it is only needed in DFU mode?
Can you post a link to the driver you downloaded? What version of Windows are you on?

Sox,

It was the driver that the reboot software installer installs. Since it requires the PMD to be detected in DFU mode in order to install the goodies, the driver for windows couldn't install it. I approached the following in this manner:

Windows 7 Professional (64-bit)

After intallation of PMD-Restore-14142 (Failing to detect any PMD devices]

1. Open Device Manager
2. Locate 'DFU Gadget' [with error icon]
3. Select DFU Gadget > Update Driver [Manually Browse for a driver]
4. Locate directory which PMD-Restore-14142 is installed and use that to search for the driver.
5. Install Driver
6. DFU Gadget is updated to DFU Pacemaker in Device Manager and installed devices.
7. Reinstall PMD-Restore-14142 following the directions posted by djpip27.
8. PMD Pacemaker will be restored to firmware version 14142.
9. Pacemaker is now repaired.
10. Continue to Download/Install 180096069 firmware.
11. Eureka!

Hope this helps.

Go to the Pacemaker Open Source Website and download the file named PMD-Restore-14142.exe (by clicking on the green download button).
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pmosc/

This utility (if I understand it correctly) will flash the device and restore the last official firmware version.

Without the Pacemaker connected to your computer, turn the device on and instantly press and hold the REW, FWD, PLAY and CUE buttons to place your device in DFU mode. Only use this mode if your device is truly bricked. I believe you'll know when you have reached this mode as only the left deck light will be lit. If you see the boot logo - I believe you've not entered DFU mode and you should try again.

Once in this mode connect the device to your computer using the USB cable.

Once downloaded, run the setup (PMD-Restore-14142.exe) although you need to right click on the file and choose 'Run as Administrator' under Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8, for this to work correctly.
Leave all the default options checked and hopefully it will say 'Devices found: 1' and your device will be re-flashed. I can't emphasise the importance of not-disconnecting your Pacemaker during this process as it really will become a paperweight without even a boot logo if you unplug it during this process. You will loose all music, all settings, all files - but I guess you feel like you've already lost that currently.

Let us know how you get on! (I've never done this myself so good luck - I'll help wherever I can).

Greetings!
I recently came across the same problem with my own pacemaker, but mine won't charge at all. I can put it in DFU mode when its connected to my pc, even though it's bricked, but I can't put it in DFU mode when it's not connected to my pc.
I just love this device after almost 7 years I have it. I haven't really used it a lot throughout all these years, and two months ago, when I last used it, it was working perfectly well.
PLease help. Thank you.

I'm not on top of this DFU thing, but surely you only have to do this DFU thing once to recover it don't you? Is there something stopping you doing this whilst it is plugged into your PC?

I am guessing that you have the 60Gb which doesn't come with a mains adapter? Otherwise you could just plug in your mains adapter to overcome the lack of charge. You could buy one (spec's elsewhere in the forum).

Failing that I have an original 120Gb version complete with mains adapter which has never given me any of the problems people have reported on here. I haven't used it in over a year and would be open to offers.
