Backing up PMD

Post by djstf » Thu Oct 09, 2014 2:38 am

Hi guys,

Let me start by saying aweomse work, your site rocks.

Im resurrecting my PMD, its been sitting disused for a year or two as the battery and disk have seen better days. So Ive run it up and want to replace the disk first - while I wait for the new SSD I thought I would grab a copy of the data from it. I used robocopy to start the transfer but after 1 or 2 GB the PMD disconnectes and goes into play mode. I can reconnect and start again but its pretty regular, even with PME sitting open.

Just wondering if it's known behaviour or maybe my disk really is dying? Im primarily replacing because the disk is starting to whir and click.

Don't think it's a known issue.
If you have Windows you could try my PMExplorer app and the "retrieve tracks" feature to pull your music off the device onto pc and rename then from the cryptic hex filenames to real filenames based on the mp3 tag info at the same time. You can also do it in batches, such as by genre, which might help if your disk if fsulting part way through. It's not perfect but I think it mostly works.
